Any discussion of the big winners of the NCAA basketball begins with wood legendary UCLA guru John. Wood was much more than the best teacher of basketball still to walk on a court was revered as an education expert and win the game of life.
Known as the "Wizard of Westwood, Wooden won 665 games in 27 seasons at UCLA to 10 NCAA titles in the last 12 years, including 7 straight from 1967 to 1973. He also had 88 wins and two undefeated back-to-back national championship teams.
Register wooden UCLA's national championship 10 years was 291-10 (not a typo), which is rounded off to a winning percentage of 97% and includes no less than 4 perfect 30-0 seasons. In short, is wooden and the whole world when it comes to win basketball games and national titles.
Without thinking, I would say that no one could cover wood as the big winner in NCAA history.
Here is a brief story buried deep in the sports section of my newspaper this guy reminds me of Arkansas named John McDonnell. McDonnell knew that had gained a lot of NCAA titles as coach of Arkansas Cross Country and Track programs.
I forgot McDonnell and Arkansas, as running, America does not get much press. I did some research and was surprised to discover that the Arkansas teams McDonnell:
1) Cattle 42 (yes, 42!) NCAA Championships since 1984, 11 in cross country, 19 indoor and outdoor track 12. Arkansas was to govern the operation of the condition that only 24 more titles the NCAA in all three sports combined were won by other schools in the last 24 years. McDonnell 42 national championships are more than any other coach in any sport in the history of athletics in college.
2) Triple Crowns won 5 National (titles in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track in the same year), including three 3 Suite crowns from 1991 to 1994.
3) won at least one national championship cross country, indoor track or outdoor track in 21 of the last 22.
4) triple sec won 20 crowns since 1982, including 8 straight between 1987 and 1995. Imagine making 24 straight SEC titles during a period 8 years. He won a total of 83 conference championships.
5) has won 12 consecutive NCAA championships indoor 1984 to 1995, the longest streak of titles national by any school in the history of sport in college.
6) League won 33 consecutive and 16 consecutive SEC Cross Country Championships from 1974 to 2006.
John McDonnell as teams are known for their balanced scorecard and credit McDonnell hired as important to its success. "The Athletes not only shown if there are contacted and hired, "he said.
McDonnell established a pedigree full of champions in the U.S. state of Walking 179 training track All-Americans, 54 individual national champions and 23 Olympians in 6 different Olympic Games, including gold, silver and bronze medalists.
McDonnell will leave his post as coach of Arkansas after 35 seasons in the season of outdoor track ends this year. The 69 years of coaching old, was born in Ireland and became a U.S. citizen in 1969 after graduating from Louisiana-Lafayette, where he met 6 times All American athletes in scholarships skiing and tennis.
